ORANGE COSMOS
cosmos sulphureus

Cosmos.jpeg

Description

Cosmos keeps us on our toes in mid-summer as this large, somewhat wild looking plant produces a seemingly endless number of flowers.  We look out our bedroom window each morning surprised at the sea of orange when we picked so carefully just a day or two earlier. Cosmos also make a beautiful and long-lasting cut flower.

Experiments

Cosmos produces a vibrant orange on wool (see colourwork below) and a beautiful bright orange eco-print on cotton. We also dyed a linen shirt with cosmos achieving the deep orange we were looking for (though that doesn't show well on the photo below).
